Located on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, Lucky’s Surf Camp is perfectly positioned right by the famous Weligama beach break. This spot offers consistent waves year-round, making it ideal for beginners and intermediates alike.

But if you’re an advanced surfer, we’ve got you covered too, as there’s over fifteen surf breaks a short tuk-tuk drive away, offering variety of surf experiences.

Whether you’re after reef, point, or beach breaks, you’ll find it all here. Some of the nearby spots include Mirissa Right, Ram’s, Lazy Left & Right, Sticks, Marshmallow and The Rock among others. Our experienced surf guides will take you to the spots best suited to your abilities and goals.

BEST TIME TO SURF

While Sri Lanka’s southern coast has waves all year round, but there are two distinct surf seasons: the high season and the “green” season. The high season runs from November to April, offering the most consistent surf and ideal weather.

From May to October, the south experiences monsoon showers, but don’t let that discourage you. Swells are strong, and while there’s onshore wind, it’s still a great time for advanced surfers and beginners alike, with fewer crowds and excellent learning conditions.

SURF SKILL LEVELS:

Progress as a surfer, it’s essential to identify your current skill level. Here’s a breakdown of the levels we cater to at Lucky’s Surf Camp:

Level 1 – Complete Beginner

Perfect for those who’ve never surfed or only tried a few times. We start with ocean safety, surf rules, and pop-up techniques before getting in the water. Instead of pushing you into waves, we teach you to read them so you can catch waves independently in the white water. The focus is on building confidence, safety, and having fun.

Level 2 – Intermediate

This level is for surfers can pop up comfortably and are eager to move from white water to unbroken “green” waves. You’ll learn how to safely paddle out to the lineup and catch green waves. We also cover essential surf etiquette to ensure you navigate the surf breaks properly.

Our coaches will help you fine-tune your technique, improve your wave selection, and start turning left and right on waves, ensuring you’re progressing toward more advanced maneuvers.

Level 3 – Advanced

For experienced surfers looking to elevate their skills, we offer surf guiding. We’ll take you to different breaks around the south coast of Sri Lanka —reef, point, or beach—depending on the conditions and your goals.

You’ll learn to read waves, improve your entry and exit strategies, and enhance your technique with personalized video feedback. The focus is refining your maneuvers, and guiding you toward independence in surfing bigger waves and challenging spots.

At Lucky’s Surf Camp, we’ve created a perfect blend of surf theory and video analysis to help you improve faster and more efficiently.

Not only will you accelerate your progress, but also gain confidence in your skills. Plus, you’ll receive all the footage to take home, which is both a great keepsake and a tool to track your growth over time.

Why Surf Theory matters:

Our theory sessions dive into crucial topics like paddling, wave selection, surf etiquette, and safety, alongside advanced techniques such as speed generation and angling take-offs.

By understanding the “why” behind each move, you’ll make smarter decisions in the water. We also cover essential surf knowledge, including history of surfing, surf equipment and board types, ocean awareness, surf conditions and reading the forecast.

Video analysis is a game-changer! We’ll review your surf sessions frame by frame. This allows you to clearly see your strengths and pinpoint areas for improvement. A small adjustment, like positioning your feet differently or adjusting your paddle technique, can lead to huge progress.
