COMMON QUESTIONS

SURFING

When is the best time to visit for ideal surf conditions?

Sri Lanka’s southern coast enjoys year-round surf. During the peak season – December to March- the weather is dry and winds are offshore, providing consistent waves. During the monsoon season (May to October), swells are stronger, there are occasional showers, and beaches are nearly empty.

The shoulder months, April and October, often deliver some of the best swells with fewer tourists around. Weligama as always – is tranquil and beautiful village on the shore, full of pristine beaches, surf points, restaurants and other touristic spots.

Life just goes here its usual way. There are some daily power cuts (about 2 hrs daily) but you most likely won’t notice it as you’ll be in the water or discovering our beautiful island somewhere in nature or having fun.

When is the best surf season in Weligama?

You can surf in Weligama year-round, with the best surf conditions between November and April. These months provide consistent waves suitable for all levels. If you prefer quieter beaches & line-ups, the off-season (May to October) still offers good surfing with fewer crowds.

What skill levels do you accommodate at Lucky’s Surf Camp?

We welcome surfers of all levels—from complete beginners to advanced surfers. Whether you’re learning how to pop up on a board or perfecting your maneuvers, our professional surf instructors tailor each session to your ability.

Additionally, you’ll participate in surf theory workshops that cover essential techniques and ocean knowledge, along with video analysis sessions, allowing you to review your performance and track your progress.

Do you provide surfboards and wetsuits?

Yes, we provide a range of surfboards, including soft tops for beginners and hard boards for more experienced surfers. Wetsuits are not necessary due to the warm water temperatures, but we do offer rash vests for sun protection. You’re welcome to bring your own board if you prefer.

I’ve never surfed before. Is this camp for me?

Absolutely! We cater to all skill levels, including complete beginners. Our surf instructors will teach you all the basics, making sure your first surfing experience is unforgettable.

To give you the best possible attention, we limit group sizes to a maximum of 5 people per instructor. This ensures personalized coaching and faster progress.

YOGA

Do I need yoga experience to join the sessions?

Our yoga sessions are designed for all levels, so whether you’re a seasoned yogi or a complete beginner, you’ll feel comfortable and supported. The instructor will offer modifications based on your ability and comfort level.

What are the benefits of combining surfing and yoga?

Yoga and surfing go hand in hand when it comes to enhancing your surfing skills. Practicing yoga increases flexibility, balance, and both physical and mental strength—key elements for improving your surf performance.

Our afternoon yoga sessions help you recover and rejuvenate after a day of surfing, preparing your body for the next session in the water.
